If you need to talk to someone about money, debt, benefits or anything else related to family life, you can get free, trusted, confidential advice from Children First.
Monday to Friday, 9am – 9pm and weekends, 9am – noon
Help from One Parent Families Scotland
If you’re a single parent you can also get support from One Parent Families Scotland’s lone parent helpline.
Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 4pm
Help from Citizens Advice Scotland
You can contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau to get free, confidential and impartial money and rights advice.
Help from your local council
If you’re looking to start work or change your job, your local council's employability service is a great place to start. They can help support you into employment in a way that works for you.

Help and support with work
If you’ve been finding it hard to make ends meet, the thought of looking for work that fits around your family can be overwhelming. The good news is, you don’t have to do it on your own – there are lots of services to support you through your job hunting journey and help you get a job that fits around your family. We can guide you to someone to talk to who can support you to gain new skills, find work, access childcare and increase your earnings.

Here you'll find more information on benefits and one-off payments that are available to parents. We also direct you to trusted advice that’s tailored to your family’s needs. Even if you think your family isn’t entitled to any financial support, it’s important to check all the same – you may be surprised. You could take a look at the entitled to benefits calculator, which will help you work out if you’re eligible.
Money saving tips and advice
At the moment a lot of families are finding it hard to make ends meet, so if you’re in this situation you’re not alone. You may feel you’ve tried everything to save and make a bit of extra money. But here you’ll find lots of tips for saving on household costs and other expenses and boosting your income where you can. And if getting to grips with all this is making your head spin, you can always get help from the Money Talk Team.
